Join Park Interpreters for Prairie Day, a celebration of culture on the prairies on National Indigenous Peoples Day. From buffalo hunting to seasonal gathering, early settlement to recreation at the park today, the land that is now Buffalo Pound Provincial Park has been an important gathering place for people since time immemorial.

Kick off Prairie Day with one of Canada’s leading Indigenous country music artists, Teagan Littlechief and stay for an afternoon of fun, crafts, games and learning with park interpreters, the Saskatchewan Archaeological Society, the Royal Saskatchewan Museum and more! Join us for an interactive evening hike to the Nicolle Homestead to finish off the night.

Event Schedule:

1 p.m. - 2:15 p.m. - Teagan Littlechief Concert at the Pavilion
Kick off Prairie Day with one of Canada’s leading Indigenous country music artists, Teagan Littlechief! A dynamic country rock artist who grew up on White Bear First Nations, Teagan has won multiple awards including the 2025 SASK Music Contemporary Indigenous Artists of The Year and the 2024 SCMA Female Artist of the Year award. Teagan is also a three-time SCMA Indigenous Artist of the Year (2022, 2023, 2024).

1 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. - Cinnamon Buns and Iced Coffee

2 p.m. - 4 p.m. - All About Bison
Learn about the bison in the park, the conservation efforts to care for them and all about this keystone species and the critical roles that they play on the prairies.
2 p.m. - 4 p.m. - Indigenous Games

Grab friends and family and try out some Indigenous Games from across Turtle Island such as Tatanka Tatanka and Make the Stick Jump in this come-and-go activity.

2 p.m. - 5 p.m. - Saskatchewan Archaeological Society: Hands on History
Experience how archaeology helps us understand the past with hands-on activities with the Saskatchewan Archaeological Society.

2:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. Bison Paint by Number
Grab a paintbrush and paint to make your own bison artwork to take home!

2:30 - 5:15 p.m. - Royal Saskatchewan Museum: Atlatl Throwing
Practice throwing the Atlatl, a traditional First Nations hunting tool with the Royal Saskatchewan Museum. Sessions start at 2:30,
3:30 and 4:30 p.m.

3:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. - Beaded Western Red Lily Craft
The Western Red Lily is Saskatchewan’s provincial flower. Make your own beaded version of this iconic flower to take home.

4 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. - Plants as Medicine
Join Elder Angus Hamilton as he shares knowledge about plants as medicine in this interactive presentation.

7 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. - Stories from the Prairie Hike
Life hasn’t always been easy on the prairies. Listen to stories of communities working together throughout our past on this guided interpretive hike to the Nicolle Homestead.

This event is free with a valid Park Entry Permit.
