Saskatchewan will be blooming with Latin rhythms and swaying to the beat of Cuban salsa and jazz as the internationally-acclaimed Dúo Cofradía return for a three-week concert tour of the province in April
Dúo Cofradía is made up of two outstanding musicians from the historical city of Trinidad de Cuba, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Pachi Ruiz and Lia Llorente perform their own songs as well as those of other Cubans and sing of the hopes and dreams and happiness of the Cuban community. The two musicians combine traditional Afro-Cuban beats with Latin jazz, blues and powerful ballads. Although the vocals are in Spanish, the energy of their music draws everyone into the spirit of Cuba.
As the guitarist for the group, as well as a talented vocalist Pachi composes much of their music. Pachi is a well-respected and loved teacher of the guitar to many young students in Cuba. Lia is the lead vocalist and plays minor percussion. She joins Pachi in composing many of their songs, and also writes music for children and teens, captivating her young audiences with stories, quizzes and tongue-twisters. Lia gives a strong stage presence both with her voice and her personality.
Together these musicians provide a unique and engaging performance displaying the diverse rhythms of the beautiful Caribbean island of Cuba.
